Problems in Learning English

Nowadays, English becomes a very important language which is used by many people all around the world. If we can master English, we can master the world because we can understand what people say or write. It is the reason why we study English in school. Those who are not native speakers may have problem in learning English. There are several problems they face while learning that foreign language.

Firstly, it is about environment problem. The surrounding affects the way how they speak. If people around them speak with their native language, such as Bahasa, they will be familiar with it than English. People only find English words in public places that sometimes they seldom go there.

Secondly, the problem is about habit. It will be different for those who speak with English everyday than those who speak a little English. When people are used to using English, they will get intimate with it. One of the ways to improve the quality of English is reading. Reading habit seems strange for Indonesians, so we need to make them love reading.

Thirdly, the problem comes from themselves which is shame. Basically they know English, and want to speak with it in front of people, but they feel shy. It will decrease their speaking quality because they seldom use it. Because speaking English is better being practised, we need to speak with it as much as possible.

The last problem according to me is laziness. Before speaking, we need to read first. If people are lazy to read, then they have nothing to say. It happens also to their speaking ability. If they are lazy to speak, they cannot increase their pronunciation. We cannot know whether we are already correct in pronounce something or not if we never say it.

As a conclusion, we can conclude that English is very important to learn, and people may have some problems while studying it. We can minimalize those problems with practice. The source for studying English is a lot in our environment even we can study English online through internet. It depends to us whether we seriously want study English or not.

An Event in the Town Hall

A few days ago, my mom brought me to an event in the Town Hall. It's about band competition and creativity show. The teenagers from different areas had handmade crafts at a tend and the high school students performed on the stage with their bands. It was awesome because there were four students from my former high school being the first ones to rock the show. I feel proud of my juniors. I stood up near the stage to watch them closer. I met my former English teacher too. He still remembered me and said my name directly.

Before the main agenda, some people sang on the different stage indoor. I saw them from the second floor. It was a nice room at the Town Hall. I sat in an exclusive chair with full of air conditioners around me. Very cozy!

I was away after seeing the performance of my former high school. I asked permission to go to a bookstore. I went to Gramedia at Amaris Hotel and it's very near. Less than a minute by foot and I was there.

Before stepping upstairs, I visited the warehouse section downstairs at the parking area. The books were cheaper because they were taken from the Gramedia warehouse because they weren't successfully sold. I got five books for only a hundred rupiahs.

Next, I went upstairs and bought one book (it cost me a hundred as well) and nail clipper. I paid all those things with my debit card. To be honest I only had little money in my wallet. :)

After that, I enjoyed my time reading at Dunkin' Donuts but I just ordered a glass of lemon tea. It was the cheapest one in their menu. You know, I only needed their seat for taking a rest but it wouldn't be necessary if I didn't order anything.

Lastly, I went back to the Town Hall and prepared to go home with my mom and Marion. It was a sunny day and FYI I saw a man taking a bath in Tugu Muda on that day. He looked normal because he used soap to bathe. Weird! Gosh! I could see his entire body. How disgusting!

Donating Blood

A couple weeks ago, I was taking a nap in my bed lazily. My phone rang and it's my mom. She told me that she's on the way home to pick me up and we would go for donating blood. I was reluctant because I never did it before and I was imagining the sharp injection into my skin. Ouch!

Next, I washed my face and my mom arrived. I did't have a chance to eat so I had lunch in my car while my mom's driving. We were in rush because the place for donating blood nearly closed.

After an hour journey, we got there. There were many people in that place. They had the same intention which was helping others with blood. For the blood donors, there would be special gift from Tupperware. Amazing! Those things were not cheap you know.

I entered the room and waited in line. It was my first time so I hadn't have the donor card. I spent a longer time to donate. Finally the doctors agreed that I was able to give my blood because my haemoglobin was 12,5. I've ever had the bigger one when I was sick. Somehow!

I was gladly excited, yet very nervous because I thought the injection was painful. It wasn't! I swear! Trust me. Next, I was waiting for minutes to let the blood pouch full. It was less than five minutes.

Finally, I got home with bringing noodle and Tupperware in a cool bag from there. Oh yes, before going home, I ate (again) at my aunt's restaurant. It was nice to eat a lot with mom. Haha.

P.S. : There are people needing our blood. Help them survive. You can! Donate your blood and save them. Don't be afraid of the injection. It's not hurt :)

Living in a City and a Village

If I have a question like this ‘do you prefer living in a city or in a village?’, what’s your answer? Just say it in your mind. It might be confusing to choose wisely. Personally, I love living in a city because it has everything such as entertainment places and modern housings, but the air is polluted and traffic jam is like daily phenomenon. On the other hand, a village has fresh air and peaceful surrounding, but it’s hard to find a cinema or a cool hangout point.

I was born in a city and I feel proud of it. After that, I’ve been spending my life in a village to live. Although I have my whole education at the city, I sleep and eat at the village. Sometimes I spend a day or two to stay in the city. It happens when I have a date or hang out with friends.

I tell you what, you could build a palace in a village. I mean a big house. Yeah it’s because the price of the land is cheap if we compare to the land in a city. I’d rather choose having a big luxurious house in a village than having a small narrow house in a city. You might live in modern atmosphere but you get no comfort at home. Home sweet home!

Moreover, you could have a large garden or farm if you live in a village. You’d know your neighbors better and get more hospitality. I cannot say which one is worse because things have plus and minus.

Let’s talk about Jakarta. For me, it’s a city with magic. I’ve never been in other big cities so there might be a place which is more than Jakarta in this country. Jakarta has many high skyscrapers and extraordinary places. The people mostly are rich with big income although yeah it has poor people as well. Even poorer than me.

The teenagers have their own ‘slang’ language and look more fashionable. It’s totally different with uptown youngsters. What makes them so is because of the environment. You can look fashionable and chick, but just don’t be too much! However, having natural look is better than having fake appearance only to impress others.

Perisai Diri Martial Art Club (Silat)

Kyaaaa! Haik! Haik! Ugh!

Hey, what's up? I wanna talk about martial art this time. Since 2014, I've been joining Perisai Diri Silat Club. I think it's cool if a girl can fight and defend herself. I'm cool! Haha

It was just a thought to do this kind of thing because my neighbours join it too in our housing. I had a problem with my weight so I decided to burn more fat through this exercise.

Yes and it works. I have ideal weight and no one says I'm fat like I used to be. Moreover, I know my neighbours better than before. I spend my life mostly for reading and going downtown. But now, I also have a community and many new friends.

Every year, Perisai Diri holds an anniversary in a certain place to celebrate its birthday. I always come to this celebration because I expect to meet some people. There is an attractive couple in our club. Just call them Bry and  Cyn. Bry is a handsome and thin man. Cyn doesn't belong to our club but she's with Bry almost everywhere. Yeah she's a beautiful girlfriend. I feel happy to shake her hand and wish that I can be as beautiful as her. I never feel beautiful but I try to be grateful of my physical body.

Working out is good for health and we can get sweaty. If you think it's tiring, yes indeed. But it's not that tiring if you have clear intention to do so.

There are three belts in Perisai Diri. In the beginning, the member will get white belt and the colour will change to black after having a test. The highest position is red belt. For the next, there are some strips in our uniform to show the status in the club. I'm in black belt and I don't want to get the higher status because I know that the test is very difficult. No thank you!

My friends and I love doing selfie after working out. There are many pictures of us, but we will consider the best one to upload on our social media. I rarely use my own camera so I get those pictures from my friends' collections.

We usually borrow someone's car and go together to the place we will practice. The last time there were six of us in my friend's car. We sang along on the way there. We made jokes and laughed. Someday when we get married and have our own family, we will miss this such thing we're having now.

Star Trek Beyond

I met my boss at her company this morning. She’s a supervisor and very kind. I was selling eggs to her because I had them on my fridge. It’s usual for delivering eggs and teaching. Those are my jobs.

Yeah so I was asking her whether she had watched Star Trek or not. Yes, she had and became my spoiler for this movie. You know what, I love being told first before I see something. Probably some of you don’t like it, but I do.

She explained me the main problem in Star Trek Beyond and the flash plot. After hearing that, I visited YouTube and watched the trailer of Star Trek Beyond. I got the point! Unexpectedly, my boss gave me free ticket to watch the ‘real’ Star Trek in cinema. I was surprised, yet completely delighted. I need to think twice (maybe more) to enjoy a movie in cinema. It’s not cheap!

Next, I went to a cinema at a mall. I was all alone and it was lunch time. I hadn’t eaten anything. When I entered the studio (I had the movie ticket with me already), I ordered caramel popcorn. Unfortunately, it would be a shame to cancel the order because I didn’t like the price. Hell no it’s 30k. I never eat at cinema and I have no idea about any price. I regret! Still, I ate the popcorn while watching Star Trek.

As long as the movie was played, there was someone behind me laughing. From her voice, she’s an old woman. Gosh she laughed all the time. Yes there were funny scenes but everyone else was silent, except her!

The director of Star Trek which is Justin Lin successfully makes an extraordinary movie. He was also good in directing Fast and Furious movie. And I raise two thumbs up for the story writer of Star Trek. It’s such a creative plot. I LOVE IT! Thank you for creating Star Trek.

Star Trek has existed since my parents were little kids and up until now, people talk about it. Basically, I love fantasy so yeah recently I watched Star Trek I and II on television and finally I also watched the third one.

Let’s talk about the characters in Star Trek and the actors.

- I like Jim Kirk because he’s the main character and a good leader. He doesn’t like much rules.

- Mr. Spock has weird hair-style and ears. He lost his charisma with that look. He need to change I guess but haha he’s from Vulcan and it’s his characteristic.

-  Scotty is a funny man and he’s good at fixing broken machine.

-  Chekov is cute and I love his Russian accent in English.

-  Bones looks good and he’s concerned with health stuff. No wonder because he’s a doctor.

-  Sulu has Chinese face and he can replace Kirk when driving the Starlet.

-  Uhura has dark skin and she’s beautiful. Also, she’s Spock’s girlfriend.

-  Jaylah is a new character and she’s an alien woman. She’s got pale white skin and she’s attractive. She can fight well against the villains

- Manas is stared by an Indonesia actor which is Joe Taslim. I’m proud of you, Dude.

The Prince Charming at High School

I was enjoying the break time at school and about to go to the canteen before my friend called my name. She was behind me approximately five meters away.

“Zoe! Wait for me!” said Claire.

I stopped and waited for her. She took a deep breath after approaching and standing right next to me. I’d say that it was very short distance between me and her but she looked exhausted after running. Seriously?!

“I wanna buy some ice cream at canteen,” I said.

“Yeah, so do I. Shall we!” replied Claire.

I passed the school field where the boys were playing basketball. On the other side of the field, there were many girls and actually they were my juniors shouting for Arnold. The students here considered him as the prince charming. Well, for me, I disagreed. He might be handsome. And so what?

“OMG look, Zoe! How charming Arnold is! He’s so hot, isn’t he?”

“Come on, Claire. You’re too much. I don’t even like him. Why are those girls crazy about Arnold?

“Wow I guess you’re the only girl that doesn’t like the prince charming.”

“Who cares?” I said nastily.

The next day, Claire put me in a difficult situation. She told Arnold that I didn’t like him. Hell no! She was too stupidly honest. Whenever Arnold saw me, he gave me weird look. I felt awkward and ran away from him.

One day, I was stuck in the school restroom because Arnold was behind the door. I had no bravery to come out. Dear God! He was there waiting for me. I was alone and so was he.

“Hey, someone inside! Can you hear me?” Arnold asked.

“What do you want?!” I said it with fear.

“I’m Arnold and you must be Zoe. I haven’t known you well but Claire said you dislike me. I’m wondering the reason,” Arnold explained.

I remained silent. I couldn’t do anything here. My self-image would be ruined if I met him.

“Zoe, don’t you wanna come out? I know you have to go to your class because you have a test.”

“It’s not your business,” I answered.

I had no idea for the next but I decided to see him outside. He introduced himself properly and I didn’t say much. Arnold looked more handsome when I saw his face closely. The prince charming let me go to my class. As the time passed by, we were having date, and he became my boyfriend. The whole students got envious of me.

The Legend of Tarzan

Last weekend, I watched The Legend of Tarzan at XXI Paragon Mall. I chose to have it at 9.15pm and it was raining heavily when I was on the way there. Because it was Saturday Night, I saw many people going to the mall. Mostly they were youngsters. Yeah they had a date!

I didn’t expect too much to the movie because I know the story of Tarzan and I think everyone does. Tarzan is a man spending childhood in a jungle with gorillas until he grows up because his parents are dead. He becomes stronger compared to people in common because Tarzan has harder life in the jungle.

I sat on C-10 at Studio 1 and enjoyed the movie. The simple plot I wrote above was just a piece from the real plot of the movie. It became an introduction for the whole story. What made me shocked was the name of Tarzan in the movie. It’s John Clayton III which I never knew before.

The actor staring for Tarzan is really handsome and tall and muscular as well. Oh my God! You know, I’m a girl and when I see such a man, I become breathless. The actress being Jane is lucky to be with Tarzan. Haha. They act like husband and wife.

Overall, the movie was good. I like it. I want to watch it again online when it’s released. I have no idea what’s wrong with people’s opinion but they give low rating for this movie. I feel sad to be honest. They should have given more. Hey Dude, it’s just rating. Just press five or four stars for it. I have ever been an actress and it’s tiring. From that experience, I know how difficult it is to make a movie.

Lastly, watching The Legend of Tarzan is recommended for those who love action movie. You need to appreciate someone’s work because you don’t get involved directly and don’t know the process. I’d say that giving negative judgment is not necessary although you think the work is not well-created.

The Sweet Sixteen of My Brother

Having brother is my biggest dream in this world even though it’s only my imagination. I’ve ever had a brother but he died before we officially met. His name was Angga and he died inside my mom’s womb because she had an accident. Rest in peace, Bro!

Angga might be a tall handsome guy and he would probably go with me and teach me football. It’s nice to have a brother. For those who have a brother but you feel annoyed of their habits, don’t be! I’m crying to have a brother and I don’t want you to ignore yours.

Yesterday was Angga’s birthday and he became sixteen years old. Somehow this year felt special to me and I celebrated myself. I went to Gramedia (the most popular bookstore in the city) and other bookstore at Citraland Mall. I chose books to buy and looked around with imagination if I was going with Angga. In fact, I was all alone. I was supposed to go with a friend from another university but he got busy and couldn’t make it. Yeah that’s fine! I got that.

My brother’s birthday is followed by my cousin’s children’s birthday. Just call them Dan and Dim. They are not twins but they have the same birthday and their age is one year apart. Dan is the elder brother of Dim. Dim looks like the real figure of my brother because Dim has the same age with Angga.

The day after tomorrow is my other cousin’s son’s birthday. He’s older compared to Dan and Dim. I spent my childhood with him and he used to love collecting cards and mini toys such as motorcyles, cars, and characters of movies.

Lastly, I’d say that it is important to love your brother because you never know if people scream for having brother including me. Perhaps your brother get naughty today, but you never know what he will be in the future. As a girl, I dream of having brother because I need a guardian that can protect me but the reality says the opposite.
